Derek R. Peterson

Derek R. Peterson is Professor of History and African Studies at the University of Michigan. He is the editor of seven books, most recently African Print Cultures: Newspapers and their Publics in the 20th Century (with Stephanie Newell and Emma Hunter). His most recent single-authored book is Ethnic Patriotism and the East African Revival, which won the 2013 Herskovits Prize of the African Studies Association. In 2016 he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in African Studies; in the same year he was elected Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy. He is currently writing a book about post-colonial Uganda.
